Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by many websites that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide usage information to the owners of the site.
Most web browsers allow you control of most cookies through your browser settings. The www.aboutcookies.org website gives straightforward information on user management and deletion of cookies. Alternatively, your browser’s Help function should give you information on this.
The following explains the cookies used and why I use them:
I use Cloudflare for speedy and efficient delivery of my website. In addition, Cloudflare provides a security overlay to help protect the website from hackers.
Cloudflare sets one cookie ( __cfduid ) which is NECESSARY for the efficient use of the website.
In order to do this, Cookie Consent needs to set a cookie ( catAccCookies ) to permit your choices to be retained in between visits to my website. This cookie is NECESSARY in order to permit your choices to be retained in between visits to the website.
I use Google Analytics to provide information as to the number and frequency of visitors to my website as well as which pages are visited.
Google sets six cookies (__utma, __utmb, __utmc, __utmt, __utmv, __utmz) to capture this information. They are OPTIONAL – you can elect to block or delete them without affecting your use of this website.
I use PingDom to monitor the health of the website server and as a diagnostic to check the time taken for you to receive each webpage.
This involves setting an OPTIONAL cookie ( PRUM_EPISODES ) which can be blocked or deleted without affecting your use of my website.
I use MailChimp to process and dispatch emailed updates. Their systems set one cookie ( ns_widget_mailchimp-2 ) as part of the initial email sign-up process.
It is OPTIONAL – blocking or deleting it will prevent your receiving immediate website confirmation of your sign-up but will not stop the sign-up process and you will still receive an email confirmation.
